Scientists have tested their expertise on genetics on almost all living beings and cow is not an exception to it. Do not misinterpret that we are complaining. We are bringing genetics to discussion for all good reasons. If you let me get a little dramatic, I would even say that if it is not for genetics, the ecosystem wouldn’t have supported life and would have been primitive or would have gone dead by now. What is cow mobility?

When it comes to preserving the nature and the other resources of the ecosystem, it is imperative that we protect the animals that are a part of it. As much as it is important to treat the disability in human beings, it is also important to study and treat the issues that are prevalent in the animal kingdom. Mobility scoring is one such factor. Disability issues in animals can sometimes be periodic in nature. Like they prevail for over a period and vanish suddenly.

Similar to this, there were times when animals, particularly cows, faced a lot of lameness issues. As a part of this, the mobility scoring came into existence. This study would make an overall survey and find out the ratio in which cows are affected. Mobility scoring also studied the effectiveness of the treatments that were administered on such cows. The ADHB dairy was declared as the apex body that would take care of these issues. When they got too much into research, they found that these cows that developed lameness issues as a result of problems in their genetic patterns. As a result of this study came the gene alteration solution.

A lot of gene-alteration techniques were employed to help the cows get rid of their lameness issues. It was found that Digital Dermatitis, widely known in areas of science as DD, was the factor that caused lameness in animals. After this was discovered in the year 1974, people of science started looking for permanent solutions and the lender of the last resort was gene alteration. Once gene-alteration techniques were administered, the lameness issues slowly reduced in cattle and the mobility scoring increased gradually. Today there aren’t any mobility issues at least with regard to DD.
